Beyond the Layers

Beyond the Layers

The wall is up but I can see your face
Engraved in my mind despite time or space
The translucent barrier is permeable to sound
Its density changes based on who's around

The wall is not for intimidation
But rather for self-preservation
It reflects the gleam in your eyes
It intensifies the passion in your smile

Although the barrier is an obstacle
Getting beyond it is not mission impossible
One still wonders what's beyond the wall
What hidden treasures are buried beneath it all?

Intriguing and mysterious beneath that cautious exterior
Keeping most away but only drawing me nearer
Curiosity fuels the fire
While satisfaction inspires

Wondering what is within that closed in space
Curious if I will be allowed into that place
The place beyond the see-thru wall
Can I open the door and reveal it all?

The door that will allow me to see
What is behind that cool, calm, and caring personality?

If I were to judge a book by its cover
Your entire story I would long to discover
Some may see the structure as an obstacle
But I see it as an adventure, attainable

The depth of who you really are is more than you're ready to reveal
The contents behind the wall you're choosing to conceal.
The one who takes the time to sift through the layers
Will be the one who experiences you without your transparent barrier

This challenge I long to accept
But my heart and your wishes I must respect
Just know I plan to be in clear view
When you decide to show me all of you.
